qa-kit
A QA and problem-clarifying plugin for Claude Code and Codex, served from one
marketplace repo. It bundles nine skills and four agents: clarify a fuzzy problem and
compare approaches, generate test cases and edge cases, write Playwright/Vitest/k6
automation, turn manual cases into Playwright tests with web-testing from-manual,
run and audit test suites, explore an app in a browser, and debug failures to their
root cause.

$qa-kit:grill-me |
brainstorm |
Turn fuzzy intent into an outcome contract and compare approaches (--html, --report, --advice, --ultra, --yagni) |
/qa-kit:brainstorm |
$qa-kit:brainstorm |
problem-solving |
Reframe a stuck problem: simplification cascades, inversion, scale game, collision-zone, meta-patterns | /qa-kit:problem-solving |
$qa-kit:problem-solving |
predict |
Five expert personas debate a risky change and return GO / CAUTION / STOP (--chain reason|probe) |
/qa-kit:predict |
$qa-kit:predict |
Skills — test

|---|---|---|---|
scenario |
Generate test cases and edge cases across 12 dimensions (one-shot, --iterations N, --saturation) |
/qa-kit:scenario |
$qa-kit:scenario |
test |
Run tests and coverage; create, optimize, or audit a suite; ui <url> for UI testing |
/qa-kit:test |
$qa-kit:test |
web-testing |
Turn manual cases into Playwright tests (from-manual); write E2E, Vitest, API, k6, visual, and a11y tests |
/qa-kit:web-testing |
$qa-kit:web-testing |
agent-browser |
Exploratory QA and bug hunts with the agent-browser CLI |
/qa-kit:agent-browser |
$qa-kit:agent-browser |
debug |
Prove the root cause of a failing test, CI run, or bug before fixing it | /qa-kit:debug |
$qa-kit:debug |
Agents
| Agent | Role | Claude Code | Codex |
|---|---|---|---|
brainstormer |
Challenges assumptions and compares 2-3 approaches before any code is written | qa-kit:brainstormer |
brainstormer |
tester |
Runs suites, checks coverage, reports gaps (diff-aware by default) | qa-kit:tester |
tester |
debugger |
Root-cause analysis across logs, CI, databases, and tests | qa-kit:debugger |
debugger |
code-reviewer |
Production-readiness review after tests pass; never edits code | qa-kit:code-reviewer |
code_reviewer (read-only sandbox) |
Codex names use underscores because Codex's custom-agent examples all use that form.

Playwright from manual test cases
Give web-testing from-manual a Markdown, CSV, or XLSX file, or paste case text.
The agent normalizes the cases, checks missing expectations and duplicate IDs,
explores the app, proposes additional coverage, and generates tests using the
project's Playwright conventions. It keeps a case-to-test-to-assertion evidence
map and reports cases that need clarification, remain manual, or are blocked.
# Claude Code
/qa-kit:web-testing from-manual tests/manual/checkout.md --url http://localhost:3000
/qa-kit:web-testing from-manual cases.xlsx --sheet Checkout --explore-only
# Codex
$qa-kit:web-testing from-manual cases.csv --url http://localhost:3000
$qa-kit:web-testing from-manual tests/manual/checkout.md --dry-run
$qa-kit:web-testing from-manual tests/manual/checkout.md --update
These are agent skill invocations, entered in a Claude Code or Codex session. They are not shell commands. Options:
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
--url <url> |
Target app; otherwise infer from project config, docs, and scripts. |
--sheet <name> |
XLSX worksheet; required when multiple plausible sheets need a choice. |
--auth project|browser|manual |
Reuse project auth (default), an available browser session, or a user-assisted login. |
--output <dir> |
Test output directory; otherwise follow the repository's convention. |
--explore-only |
Explore the scoped app and write QA reports without generating automation. |
--dry-run |
Read-only analysis and proposed files in the session; no browser navigation, repository writes, service/test execution, or package installation. |
--update |
Reconcile existing tests by case ID and intent, preserving existing tests and IDs. |
--dry-run takes precedence when combined with --explore-only. Use a safe test
environment and test accounts; credentials and session secrets stay out of reports.
Missing browser access, authentication, or requirements remain explicit blockers,
never a claim that generated tests passed.
A full run writes a web-testing-YYMMDD-HHmm-slug.md report beside a matching
run-specific directory containing normalized-cases.json, exploration.md,
manual-cases.md (source and proposed additional cases), and traceability.json.
Added expectations without requirement evidence stay Needs clarification.
The bundled parser only reads and normalizes input; it does not explore an app or
generate tests. It needs Node.js 18+; XLSX also needs Python 3.9+ using only its
standard library. No npm install is needed for parsing. From this repository:
node plugins/qa-kit/skills/web-testing/scripts/parse-manual-tests.mjs cases.csv node plugins/qa-kit/skills/web-testing/scripts/parse-manual-tests.mjs cases.xlsx --sheet Checkout node --test plugins/qa-kit/skills/web-testing/tests/*.test.mjs
In another project, use the absolute path to the installed skill's
scripts/parse-manual-tests.mjs. Browser exploration and test execution separately
require available browser tooling and the target project's Playwright setup.
See the complete Vietnamese guide
for input templates, authentication, all parser commands, reports, and troubleshooting.
Install
Claude Code
claude plugin marketplace add ~/code/qa-kit claude plugin install qa-kit@qa-kit
Or inside a session: /plugin marketplace add ~/code/qa-kit, then
/plugin install qa-kit@qa-kit. Restart Claude Code after installing.
Codex
codex plugin marketplace add ~/code/qa-kit codex plugin add qa-kit@qa-kit node scripts/install-codex-agents.mjs # agents → ~/.codex/agents
Codex plugins cannot ship agents, so install-codex-agents.mjs converts
plugins/qa-kit/agents/*.md into Codex TOML agent files. It drops the
Claude-only sections (agent memory, team mode), refuses to overwrite a file it did
not write, and supports --project (writes ./.codex/agents), --dest DIR,
--dry-run, and --uninstall.
Update after editing
Bump version in both plugins/qa-kit/.claude-plugin/plugin.json and
plugins/qa-kit/.codex-plugin/plugin.json (and the entry in
.claude-plugin/marketplace.json), then:
# Claude Code claude plugin marketplace update qa-kit claude plugin update qa-kit@qa-kit # Codex: re-adding refreshes the cached copy from the local marketplace codex plugin add qa-kit@qa-kit node scripts/install-codex-agents.mjs

Conventions
- Skills refer to each other by bare name (
debug, scenario); both runtimes namespace them asqa-kit:<skill>. --ultramechanics live in one file,skills/brainstorm/references/ultra-verifier-mode.md, shared bybrainstorm,problem-solving,test, anddebug.--adviceuses a read-only subagent on the strongest model the runtime offers.- Reports go to the project's existing reports folder (for example
plans/reports/) or toqa-reports/, named{skill-or-agent}-{YYMMDD-HHmm}-{slug}.md.
